Personal Balance Sheet Calculator

See What You Own, What You Owe and What You’re Worth — Your Net Worth, Home Equity and Emergency Cover.

Use our Personal Balance Sheet Calculator to see what you own, what you owe and what you’re worth today — your personal net worth — with a few simple measures of how sound your finances are.

List your assets in three groups — cash and savings, investments, and things you own for personal use such as your home and car — and your debts. Your net worth is everything you own minus everything you owe. For example, a household with $25,000 in cash, $135,000 in investments and pensions, a $350,000 home and $40,000 of cars and belongings has $550,000 in assets; with a $240,000 mortgage and $24,000 of other debts, its net worth is $286,000.

The calculator also shows your home equity (the home’s value less the mortgage), your debt-to-asset ratio (48% in the example — the share of what you own that’s owed to lenders), and, if you enter your monthly spending, how many months your cash would cover: $25,000 against $5,000 a month is 5 months, within the 3–6 months often suggested for an emergency fund.

Enter what each asset is worth today, not what you paid for it, and the balance you still owe on each debt; treat the results as an estimate. Working out your net worth once or twice a year shows whether it’s growing. To see the money coming in and going out, use our Personal Cash Flow Analysis Calculator; to plan your emergency savings, our Emergency Fund Calculator.
