Dollar Weighted Return Calculator

Your Real Return, With Every Deposit and Withdrawal Counted.

Use our Dollar Weighted Return Calculator to find your own return on an account or portfolio you added money to and took money out of — taking into account how much you moved and when.

Enter the value at the start and the end, and the date and amount of each deposit and withdrawal. The money-weighted return is the yearly rate (XIRR) at which your deposits grow into your withdrawals and final value. The Modified Dietz return is a quick approximation for the period, and with only totals it is all you need.

Add the value just before each cash flow to also see the time-weighted return — how the investments themselves performed, whatever you did. When it beats the money-weighted return, your timing cost you; when it trails, your timing helped.

Fees and taxes count only as far as they are in the values you enter, so treat the results as an estimate. To project how an investment could grow, use our Investment Calculator.
