Expense Percentage Calculator

See What Share of Your Spending Each Expense Takes.

Use our Expense Percentage Calculator to see what share of your total spending each expense takes — rent, groceries, car costs or anything else you want to compare.

The formula is simple: expense ÷ total expenses × 100. For example, $300 out of $2,000 in total spending is 15%. Enter up to eight expenses with your own names; leave an amount empty to leave it out, or enter 0 to list it at 0%.

Let the calculator add up your expenses, so the shares make 100%, or enter a total — such as last month’s spending from your bank statement — to also see how much of it you haven’t listed. The results show each share, your largest expense, and a warning if your expenses add up to more than the total.

Use amounts for the same period and categories that don’t overlap, and treat the results as an estimate. To see your spending as a share of your income instead, use our Monthly Budget Calculator or Zero-Based Budget Calculator.
