About the Job Offer Comparison Calculator
Use our Job Offer Comparison Calculator to weigh two or three offers — or your current job against new ones — by total compensation and by true hourly pay: what each job pays per hour of your life once the hours, time off and commute are counted.
Total compensation adds the base salary, the bonus, the 401(k) match and twelve months of other benefits. True hourly pay divides that by the hours the job really takes: your weekly hours plus the commute, over the weeks you’re not on PTO. A $95,000 job at 45 hours a week, with 10 days off and an hour’s round-trip commute, takes 2,500 hours a year — $38.00 an hour. An $88,000 job at 40 hours, with 20 days off and a 20-minute commute, takes 2,000 hours — $44.00 an hour.
So the first offer pays $7,000 more a year, but the second pays $6.00 more for every hour it takes and gives you back 500 hours. Name each offer, add a third if you have one, and open More details for the 401(k) match, other benefits (negative for extra costs, like a pricier health plan), the commute and a shorter work week.
The numbers are only part of the decision — growth, stability, flexibility and the team matter too — and all figures are before taxes, so treat the results as an estimate.
