Personal Cash Flow Analysis Calculator

See What Comes In, Where It Goes and What’s Left — Your Net Cash Flow, Savings Rate and Spending Ratios.

Use our Personal Cash Flow Analysis Calculator to see how much money comes in, where it goes and what’s left over each month or each year, with a few simple measures of how your spending is shaped.

Enter your income — salary, dividends, interest and anything else — then what you put into savings and investments, your fixed expenses (loan payments, insurance, rent and other bills that stay the same) and your variable expenses (food, transport, utilities, entertainment and the like). Your net cash flow is the money in less the money out. For example, a household with $6,200 coming in each month that saves $600, pays $2,670 in fixed and $2,250 in variable expenses has $680 left over — $8,160 a year.

The calculator also shows your savings rate (9.68% of gross income in the example) and compares your housing costs and debt payments with gross income against the common 28% and 36% guides: the example’s housing costs are 25.81%, within the guide, but its debt payments are 37.10%, a little above it. These are rules of thumb that many lenders use, not hard limits.

Enter amounts before tax, all for the same period; treat the results as an estimate. A shortfall means savings or borrowing are covering the gap. To see what you own and owe, use our Personal Balance Sheet Calculator; to plan spending by category, our Monthly Budget Calculator.
