Equity Growth Calculator

Find the Final Value, the Starting Value, the Growth Rate or the Time.

Use our Equity Growth Calculator to see how the value of an investment or asset changes at a steady yearly growth rate. Enter any three of the four values — initial equity, final equity, annual growth rate and time — and it finds the fourth.

The value grows by the same percentage each year, so each year’s growth is added to the value and grows too: $10,000 growing at 5% a year is worth $16,288.95 after 10 years. Turn it around to find the time: at 5%, $10,000 reaches $20,000 after 14 years 3 months. Or find the rate: growing from $10,000 to $12,000 in 2 years 6 months takes 7.57% a year.

To find the initial equity you’d need, enter the final value: $50,000 in 8 years at 6% a year means starting with $31,370.62. To discount a future amount with interest compounded monthly, daily or on another schedule, use our Present Value Calculator. A negative rate shows a value that falls — $10,000 losing 5% a year is worth $8,573.75 after 3 years.

The rate stays the same every year, nothing is added or taken out, and fees, taxes and inflation aren’t included, so treat the results as an estimate. If you add money regularly, use our Compound Interest Calculator with Contributions; if the rate changes over time, our Variable Interest Rate Compound Calculator.
