Spread a Future Expense Into Easy Monthly Savings.
About the Sinking Fund Calculator
Use our Sinking Fund Calculator to save for a cost you can see coming — car repairs, holiday gifts, an annual insurance premium, a vacation or new tires — by setting aside a little each month instead of paying it all at once. To price a trip first, use our Vacation Budget Calculator; for the holiday season, our Holidays Budget Calculator.
Find how much to save per month: the amount still needed divided by the months you have. For example, a $2,400 goal with $400 saved and 10 months to go is $200 a month, or about $46 a week. You can also find how long it will take at a set amount, or what you’ll have by the deadline.
The amounts to save are rounded up to the cent, so sticking to them always reaches your goal. The results show the weekly and every-two-weeks amounts, how much faster you’d get there at 1.5 or 2 times your contribution, and whether you’ll be short of your goal or have some to spare.
Interest isn’t included, which keeps the estimate on the safe side. A sinking fund is for expenses you can plan; to size a cushion for the ones you can’t, use our Emergency Fund Calculator, and to fit the monthly amount into your spending, our Monthly Budget Calculator.
